An international chemical manufacturing company faced challenges with their outdoor Wi-Fi network at a facility in the southern United States. The network was intended to support data needs for workers navigating the units across the facility, but it constantly underperformed. The situation posed an intriguing dilemma: how does a company with strict international security protocols address an issue that not only disrupts daily operations and communications, but also potentially compromises security? The company began by seeking out the expertise of MSB Consulting Engineers (MSB).
Wi-Fi Presents A challenge
While Wi-Fi offers many advantages, it also presents challenges depending on the location and environment. Wi-Fi signals can be disrupted by other wireless devices, electromagnetic noise, or physical obstacles, all leading to lower quality or loss of connection. Additionally, Wi-Fi is not ideal for mobility.
After numerous discussions and reviewing various scenarios and variables, MSB decided that designing a Private LTE (PLTE) network would help resolve the connectivity issues throughout the facility. Once that hurdle was cleared, the next challenge was configuring the network to meet strict security protocols.
Phase I: PREPARING FOR PRIVATE LTE
MSB initiated the process of formatting a comprehensive plan dedicated to the design and deployment of the network. In this initial phase, they worked closely with the company to align every aspect of the project with the established technical specifications to make sure MSB truly captured the intended design vision in a way that would be operationally effective.
Understanding that successful implementation hinges on strong partnerships. MSB actively engaged with key stakeholders within the company and coordinated with low-voltage installation contractors to meticulously plan the project execution. As Phase I unfolded, it culminated in several significant deliverables: a detailed PLTE network design that met strict security protocol measures, comprehensive construction drawings for the physical installation, an extensive testing plan and procedure, and an astutely crafted budget. Each component played a vital role in laying out a clear roadmap for execution and ensured that the company would be financially prepared to support its strategic objectives as they move forward in subsequent phases of the project.
This thoughtful approach underscores MSB’s commitment to creating solutions that are both innovative and sustainable in nature.
What’s Next?
Phase I of the project was dedicated to identifying the right solution for the client’s challenge and making sure the PLTE network was tailored to their unique requirements. Now, as the project moves into the deployment, construction management, RF optimization and performance validation phase (Phase II), the meticulous planning and collaboration from Phase I is transformed into tangible results.
